Web ApplicationsPlanning Ireland

CompuTech
This is a web site containing every planning application in Ireland, North and South. The site is updated hourly to ensure that the date is kept completly upto date. Data is gathered from all planning offices in Ireland and from newspapers, journals etc. Most of the information is entered locally in the office of C.I.C. (the company that owns the website). Some information is entered by home workers who email a zip extract of the data daily. This extract is produced using a batchmove on all tables based on the last extracted timestamp. The zip file is emailed to the central office and unzipped and the batchmoved into the main central database.
This database is synchronised hourly with the web site. The web site hosts a DBISAM server that allows the transfer of data from the central office to the website on an hourly basis (all done automatically). Data is extracted each hour (on the half hour) by the webmaster using the DBISAM ODBC driver to connect DBISAM to SQL Server 7.
Although a batchmove process is used to transfer the data each hour to the website, the company also can open the DBISAM tables directly using the InControl System which is used to manange the data on the local server. This is done simply by point InControl to the website's DBISAM server rather than the local DBISAM server.
