Casual Friday for Week Ending November 12th
Posted by Tim Young on Fri, Nov 12 2010

Well, with the best of intentions....

As is the case with many endeavors, I intended to do a post like this every Friday, and as is also the case with many endeavors, I didn't exactly follow through. It seems like some weeks I simply don't feel like I have anything new to add to the conversation. But, it's been a long time since I've done a Casual Friday post here, so I have built up a reserve stock of items to discuss, and can now unleash them upon the world. Smile

Casual Friday for Week Ending April 23rd
Posted by Tim Young on Fri, Apr 23 2010

As I've mentioned before in prior posts, I recently bought a Dell XPS 9000 desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for my new development machine. I was previously using XP Pro SP3 running on an older Gateway machine (no, I'm not into building my own machines Smile). My move to Windows 7 64-bit is now complete and, all in all, it wasn't too bad considering that I had to move over 16+ development environments, including some like Delphi 5 that are over a decade old.

Casual Friday for Week Ending April 9th
Posted by Tim Young on Mon, Apr 12 2010

Last Friday was part of Easter weekend, so I skipped the Casual Friday post. The post this week is a little late due to my having to spend last Thursday and Friday switching my development environment from my old Windows XP Pentium D box to a new Dell XPS 9000. I've been putting off the switch to a new machine for at least a year now, dreading what I would encounter when trying to switch everything from XP to Windows 7. Fortunately, things went fairly smoothly and the most time-consuming portion of the switch was simply transferring the 200+GB of data and programs from the XP machine. The big problem I have now is that all of the ElevateDB and DBISAM performance tests are twice as fast, and so I need to re-adjust my point of reference as to what constitutes "fast". Smile

Casual Friday for Week Ending March 26th
Posted by Tim Young on Fri, Mar 26 2010

We've got a new poll up on the home page about updating the existing DBISAM utilities with newer user interfaces, and would appreciate you taking a moment to answer, especially if you're a current DBISAM user. There will be a new DBISAM 4.30 coming out by the end of spring, so we would like some feedback before we make a decision one way or the other.

The DBISAM to ElevateDB migration promotion has been going well again this year, and we're happy to provide an easy route to ElevateDB so that existing DBISAM customers can move forward along with Elevate Software. I'm working on a technical article on migrating from DBISAM and other databases to ElevateDB, so hopefully that will help in the process.

Casual Friday for Week Ending March 19th

I missed my Casual Friday post last week due to an, unfortunately, expected 40th birthday. I say "unfortunately" because the birthday was mine. Frown

Cross-Platform Delphi

The Wings of Wind blog has an interesting new post about the possible outcomes of the cross-platform Delphi that has been rumored for some time now:

Casual Friday for Week Ending March 5th
Posted by Tim Young on Fri, Mar 5 2010

As part of the new blog, I'll be doing a "casual Friday" post every Friday that takes a step back and discusses the finer things in life. In other words, anything that isn't what we do for a living all week. Smile Feel free to post whatever you wish in the comments, whether it is related to music, movies, TV, books, technology, or just something cool that you found on the net.
