Thread A new version of DBM (Database Manager) for DBISAM
Fri, Jul 28 2006 8:06 AMPermanent Link

"Jose Eduardo Helminsky"
Hi guys

It uses DBISAM 4.22 build 4 and I have introduce Build number instead of
version. My intention is release another version compiled with 4.25 (may be
next week) and keep the Build number of DBM. This new release fix a lot of
minor bugs and add some features requested by some users.

Let me know about new bugs and request features you would like to see in the
next build.

The file DBM.ZIP is available at NG binaries

DBM FEATURES

General
.. Server Configuration and data manipulation in the same tool
.. Save the last 10 databases accessed
.. Auto-complete database path
.. Database information (in bytes and number of records) only for local
sessions
.. It is a free tool. Use and enjoy it

Tables
.. Easy and fast way to open the tables
.. List of fields and indexes in the same window of data table
.. Data filler to create test tables
.. Export structure and/or data table to a SQL statement
.. All BCD fields are formated with 4 decimals
.. All Float fields are formated with 8 decimals
.. Select fields you wish to see
.. Data grids can freeze some columns
.. Easy way to locate records
.. Resizeable table list window
.. Print table structure

SQL
.. SQL statement window can execute only marked text
.. SQL results can be saved to a new table
.. SQL results can be printed
.. SQL results can be filtered
.. SQL results can be exported to a text file
.. SQL results can be exported to MS Excel
.. All BCD fields are formated with 4 decimals
.. All Float fields are formated with 8 decimals
.. View SQL statement and data in the same window
.. Select fields you wish to see
.. Data grids can freeze some columns
.. Easy way to locate records
.. SQL statement can be zoomed (to find bugs)
.. SQL scripts can be debuged

Eduardo,

That works very well - its the first time I've used it as I'm new to
DBISAM. I like the sql quick reference. Does the version of DBISAM being
used by DBM have to match the version of DBISAM I'm using (I've version
4.?? downloaded about 2 mths ago)
As a suggestion, would it be possible to have a history of sql commands
that you can re-run previous entries? Its always a pita to have to copy
the sql command to the clipboard if you think you will need to run it
later after entering some new commands,

Thanks.

I have decide to build my own database manager to add features and learn
more and more about DBISAM. I am sure IŽve learnt a lot with this
development. My intention is continue to develop DBM with version 5 too.

No, you can use DBM with any version of DBISAM since 4.00 until the last
release of 4.X
I will upload new builds according with new release of DBISAM builds

Ok, IŽll see what I can do, but it is a nice suggestion. You can write more
than one SQL statement (in the same window), select the desired statement
and click Run (or press F9) and the engine will read only the selected text.

Hello Eduardo

Nice Tool!

For some applications I changed the file extensions of the DBFiles. It would be great if I could define different file extensions

You can Save/Load SQL statements whenever you want. When you say history of
SQL statement, you are talking about Save each run of sql statement like
DBMSQL.001, DBMSQL.002, and so on ?  And a quick way to retrieve this
information ?

Eduardo,

I didn't know you could have multiple SQL statements in the window and
the engine would only run the selected text. However if there was a neat
way of having some sort of history of SQL statements run since the
program was opened that could be selected and then repopulate the sql
window that would be nice...
