The "Poor Boy's" Data Dictionary |

Mike O'Grady, Aquila Technology | One of the issues that comes up occasionally on the forum is that of updating the structure of existing installations on customer sites when you make design changes to the
database. It is an issue that has discouraged me from advising some customers that we have updated our software because the new version may be incompatible with the database version that they have installed. With some customers working on versions that are five years old, we needed a way of updating their databases that did not involve incremental patches. My solution, though not the only approach, is to use XML to define the current version of the database and use this to restructure the customer database. We have only just completed a utility to do this and I thought it might be of interest to some DBISAM users so it is attached. Please regard this as a work in progress and BACKUP before use. Comments, suggestions, etc. welcome provided that they are constructive. Mike O'Grady www.aquilatechnology.com Attachments: PoorBoyDataDic.zip |
