dbisam 3.30 vs Mcafee anti-virus |

Jaweed Saleem | Hi,
We've just recently had a customer who was running mcafee anti-virus on their server (which is also running the dbisam server). The problem is that the mcafee anti-virus was stopping the .dat file creation in the temp directory. It was really sporadic and didn't make much sense, with mcafee resident scan disabled, it wouldn't allow ANY dat files to be created, however once it was enabled, then it would allow a certain number of files before stopping dat file creation. bizarre. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this before. At any rate, I uninstalled mcafee completely and now dbisam works fine. My question really is, what is the best strategy for having an anti-virus checker on the same server as dbisam? What would everyone recommend as the virus checker? Thanks in advance |

"Allan Brocklehurst" | Jaweed;

Dan Rootham | Jaweed,
<< What would everyone recommend as the virus checker? >> I would second GregF and suggest AVG. It has worked very well for us, and here is their home page: www.grisoft.com HTH, Dan |

Sean McCall | We use NOD32 and have been very happy since dumping Norton.
Runs automatically in the background and doesn't bother you with annoying update screens like Norton either. "Isaacs" | Try this:
Go to virus scan console -> On Access Scanner Select "All Processes" at your left bar and then "Detection" tab At the "What not to scan", then click "Exclusions..." Define the "*.dat" at the "by file type" option. Hope it will helps... I'm using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0 "Jaweed Saleem" <jaweedxp@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:0075C6EE-D27C-4D8B-BD03-C9B0CBEB1AD7@news.elevatesoft.com... > Hi, > > We've just recently had a customer who was running mcafee anti-virus on > their server (which is also running the dbisam server). I have seen a similiar behavior with mcafee while importing to some tables..(a lot of querys for each insert..) after a certain numbers of imported records we got lock errors.. after 10,115,93,194....records.. (no system in this behaviour) (was a dual xeon, quite fast..) we didn't searched long for "why",.. just uninstalled mcafee. Now it's working fine... installed scanner is now NOD32. HIH, ralf |
