DBISAM v3.29

"Cannot modify a read-only dataset."

I have read all of the posts regarding the message I could find. Using all of the techniques suggested to locate the problem has not helped.

I have a client running c/s. Sometimes in the morning they receive the message "Cannot modify a read-only dataset." Stopping and starting the DBISAM server corrects the problem. I was
able to see this activity recently. I tried opening one of the tables in DBSys and it showed read/write. I was able to edit the same record when running the application via file-sharing but
switching back to c/s I received the "Cannot modify a read-only dataset." error. This happens sporadically but quite often in the morning. Without getting into more detail about nightly back-
ups, etc... Any idea what could cause the server to get locked into a read-only mode when the tables are not set to read-only?

Did this just start happening ?

See if they're copying the tables around in any manner that might change the
OS user rights for the table files.  Altering or optimizing a table will do
this also under newer Windows OS's like XP.

It has been happening for a while now.

I will check with them and see if anything sticks out.

Thanks for the quick response!
