Thread Setup for Network - one more time
Sun, May 28 2006 2:35 AMPermanent Link

"Jørn Rasmussen"
I know this issue have bin enplaned many times, but I have still some
questions.

Just upgrade from ver. 3 to 4, and going to setup DBISAM on a local network
for the first time.

I have a server and 3 workstations. One with only read permission and the
other two, all rights to the DB.

I have read DBISAM architecture and others but anywhere, my questions are:

Are we talking about tree different exe file.

One for the Server, one for the "readonly" PC and one for the last two PC

Is there a link out there for loacl network like:

http://www.elevatesoft.com/scripts/newsgrp.dll?action=openmsg&group=5&msg=44284&page=32

thanks in advance

You should just define two users and then grant them different rights to the
database. For the individual client stations you can read the user login
information from a local INI file or from the registry.

Then you can use the same executable from all three workstations.

Jørn,

Not at all.  Just launch the Server Adminstration Utility (SrvAdmin) and
connect to the database server, and then define 3 different users via the
Users tab.  Then assign these users rights to the database via the Database
Users tab.  If you haven't defined the database yet, you can also do that
via the Databases tab before assigning the user rights.  Once this is done,
just leave the TDBISAMSession.RemoteUser and RemotePassword properties blank
in your application, and DBISAM will prompt the user for that information
when trying to connect.

It's the exact same process for local networks as it is for the Internet.
