1. any error messages?
2. version of DBISAM?
3. did you check the running services? .. maybe you are just missing
the tray icon?

how do you start the server? like this?
dbsrvr /install
net start dbsrvr

You might be trying to run the /INSTALL from a non-administrative
account that doesn't have sufficient access rights. Also, if you are
trying to run the server with no currently logged in user then you might
have left off the /NOINTERACT switch.

Are you getting an error when you try to install it as a service, or when
you try and start the service ?
