Hi

I am having problems with one of my clients' computer. The c/s version of my
application suddenly stoped working properly. I have reinstalled dbsrvr and
started it as a service. And it works fine if I connect to it with srvadmin,
but I receive an error when my application tries to open a session:

"Project Intra.exe raised exeption class ESocketError with message 'windows
socket error: an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
(10054), on api 'recv''."

Any ideas what that means? My client said that while working with my
application, the screen suddenly froze and half of it became blank, while
the other side was still visible. When she tried to restart the application
she couldn't do it any more.

Thank you for your help,
Aleksandar Simić

Aleksandar,

This means pretty much what it says - the connection was closed because the
database server machine on the other end reset the connection for some
reason.  Did you check to make sure that the database server machine is
still running okay ?

What should I be looking into? I know that the problems began when one of
the users on the server machine got some strange graphic glitch (half of the
screen went blank or something like that). After that the problems began.

But I can get sonnected using srvadmin and same parameters as in my
application (IP or server name).
Is there something else I should be looking at? The application is the same
as it was few days ago, when everything was working perfectly.

What could possibly be wrong with the machine?

I can't tell my costumer that her machine is the reason for this because
everything else seems to be working all right.

Aleksandar,

More than likely there was a permanent failure with either the software
configuration of either machine, or the hardware in-between.  Can the
workstation having problems ping the server machine successfully ?

I should read ahead. Smiley If you can get the Server Administration Utility
to connect from the same machine, then the issue is something other than
hardware or a simple access issue.  Just to confirm - are there any other
machines having issues, or is this the only machine that is accessing the
database server in question ?
