Server Questions |

PK | I am new to EDB. I'll be grateful if anyone can answer my questions:
1. If I buy the SRC-CS version, can I customize the Server program myself and distribute it with my application? Or is it straightforward to build a db server from the EDB components? 2. The website says that ElevateDB does not use any direct pointer access or memory manipulation under .NET, making it 100% managed code. Does it mean I can compile the whole thing in D2006.NET and it will work? 3. The website also says that there will be a .NET version following this release. Is it just for the client side or the server itself will also be .NET? 4. Will be .NET version run on MONO too? PK |

You can see how easy by looking at the edbsrvr.dpr project that we provide the source code for in the \servers\edbsrvr\source sub-directory. << 2. Does it mean I can compile the whole thing in D2006.NET and it will work? >> Not yet, but soon it will be able to. VCL.NET support is being worked on right now and will be available within the next couple of weeks. << 3. The website also says that there will be a .NET version following this release. Is it just for the client side or the server itself will also be .NET? >> The server "out-of-the-box" will still be a Win32 application, but could create your own 100% .NET server using EDB if you wanted to. << 4. Will be .NET version run on MONO too? >> I can't say for sure at this point. Once EDB is running under vanilla .NET, we will be doing complete platform tests for CF and other environments. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

It would be nice if you had face recognition so you could authorize or ban certain people entering your facility. Dave |
