Jan-Christian,

<< Answer:
In EngineBeforeStart eventhandler Engine.ConfigPath =
'P:\Elevate\Demos\Data' >>

I can't see how this could be.  If the ConfigPath is set in the BeforeStart
event handler, then it should be good to go.

<< At an earlier stage I noted that I had a number of freshly created
*.EDBcfg etc files in a Delphi7 folder. I have both -2007 and my old -7
installed on the system but I have not touched -7 in any way since I
installed ElevateDB on -2007. Quite a mystery how the *.EDBcfg files ended
up under - 7. Could the simultaneous presense of these two Delphis have any
bearing on the current problem with the empty path?? Anyway, no config files
seem to be created anywhere now! >>

Are you saying that you have multiple copies of EDB installed ?  If so, then
you could definitely experience some weird issues if you are compiling with
a different version of EDB than what you are working with at design-time.

Tim,

No, I don't have different versions of EDB installed. I have never installed it for Delphi7, that's why it's so surprising to find config files in that
folder!
Maybe I should clean out EDB from the system completely and then reinstall. Are there any particular files or registry entries I shold make sure
are erased before reinstalling?

Config files can be created in seemingly random locations if:

a) You used a version of EDB earlier than 2.0 that used the current working
directory for the ConfigPath, by default.
b) An application that you ran set the ConfigPath to the .exe location (the
demos do this), and the .exe was being output to various locations.

I would recommend that you wipe out any and all .edbcfg files that are
present on your system and try the demo again.   If it still doesn't work,
then you most likely are using a mix of 1.x and 2.x somehow that is causing
the confusion (2.x in design-time, 1.x at compile-time, or vice-versa), and
you may want to consider an un-install/re-install of EDB 2.x with a quick
edb* file check after the un-install, but before the re-install, to make
sure that there aren't any old copies of EDB laying around.

Tim,

That did it! After un- and reinstalling EDB everything seems to work ok!
Where the problem was remains a mystery, I have never had any 1.x version of EDB installed, nor any other 2.x version either for the matter.
Anyway, the main thing is that it works now.
Many thanks for your help, Tim!
