Ok, I know it's a random question - but curiosity's got the better of me.

Good question!

http://mw1.m-w.com/dictionary/coalesced

Pronunciation: ko-?-'les

It's sort-of 2½ sylables.  The -?- in the middle is almost part of the
first sylable making it almost like "coal" - "ess"

Oops--that didn't translate very well in plain text.

The "-?-" was supposed to be "-e-" where the e is backwards.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. Have typed it for years, but got confused when I had
to pronounce it for the first time Smiley

Cheers!

The phonetic alphabet always confuses me, and I find that even common spelling
variations aren't too good (I pronounce "grass" as "gr-aah-ss" and my wife says
"gr-ass"), but I'll go with:

co-well-ess

In view of my feelings towards nulls I'd use co-hell-es
