"Erik" | Hi,
I have two questions, one of them is a specific dbisam: a. suppose I have a ftp server somewhere is it possible to plase a dbisam table on it ( of course in a specific directory ) and open/alter that table from a local application ( which is running local tables and not whit a dbisam server) ? If yes: what does I have to do ? b. I am looking for a new pc and possibly it will be a one with Vista (yes I know.... no jokes please ) Are there known problems running Delphi 7 on Vista computers ? with kind regards Erik |

I don't know about D7 but D6 and D2006 are both ok on Vista. Your other question is a bit more difficult. What you're proposing is to operate over the internet in fileserver mode (I think). To do that you need local access to the resource. That's possible on your own pc and over a lan but I'm unsure about over the web. At the very least I'd guess you'd need a static IP address but I'm not sure Windows would then be able to access anything anyway. You'd be far better off getting them to host a server for you and go c/s. Roy Lambert [Team Elevate] |

FTP protocol is used to transfer files (and some basic additional operations like delete files or obtain information about files like it's size, creation date, etc). This means you can get and send files from/to an FTP server and that's it. So, the answer to your question is no. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | PS:
Well, there is a way to change the file using FTP: you can get the file from the server to a local folder, change it and then send it back to the server using FTP but I guess that's not what you have in mind... Also, this is only possible if you are sure that nobody else will try to use the file while you are using it. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

"PLAIS Lionel" | Hello,
For the first question, may I suggest you use a VPN. With a VPN, you'll have access to shared folders, and so the database files.
