Anyone have any opinion on http://WindowsOneCare.com?

I installed it on a test machine and it appears to be doing pretty well. I
have three machines here and it looks like a good, inexpensive firewall,
virus, and spyware solution. Right now it is around US$20 (only this month),
and will eventually be $50/year.

I use AVG anti-virus (licensed through November 2007) and ZoneAlarm firewall
(free version) on my development machine but I am considering changing to
OneCare if it is a good alternative primarily due to the multiple computer
licensing and price.

Hi Johnnie,

I have been using WindowsOneCare now for about 1 month and it appears to
be doing well. I have been running separate virus and spyware scans to
make sure that it is not missing anything and so far no problems.

I have noticed that occasionally doing something like opening Word there
is a delay of about 2 seconds that never happened before I installed
OneCare, but nothing that I cant put up with.

I use don't use a firewall. I relie on my router. I use Symantec Corp
9.0 for A/V and Spy Sweeper 4.5/5.0 for A/S (Course I'm slightly
biased).

I do that also..(rely on Router instead of Firewall).

Do you know for sure that its safe to do?..  I have always had a tiny amount
of doubt, but not sure why.

Yes and no. Any Windows exploits that a virus can take advantage of, to
infect your system over a network *generally* won't succeed. It really
comes down to how tightly configured your router is. I'm by no means an
expert either. And a router won't stop any apps from dialing out to the
internet that I know of. I've never had any issues myself though.

I don't even run my AV anymore. I just use it passively when I down
files I scan'em first. I do however run SpySweeper in the background
and have that do a full seem every night. I haven't run into any
spyware in ages(except the occasional tracking cookie).

Pretty much my thoughts also, I do run AVG though, but havent had problems
with spyware yet...  fingers crossed. but I dont download stupid stuff like
Smily faces and explorer seacrh bars and the like!.
Who wants that crap anyway!. Some friends of mine's PC's get so screwed up,
its almost a job in itself sorting them out all the time.

Anyways, cheers for the info

I like ZoneAlarm and OneCare firewalls primarily because I can tell which
programs are trying outgoing connections.

Zonealarm never gives me anything but trouble. I do like the outgoing
warnings though.
