Jon Lloyd Duerdoth | Roy,
I just checked... "You may install the Product on a reasonable number of machines provided that the Named User is the only individual permitted to use the Product. Interesting - all these years I've often felt that it would be nice to have it installed on more than one pc but I was being a good boy..... Roy Lambert |

Use a file monitoring utility (such as FileMon (www.sysinternals.com)) to determine which one it is. Then delete this file, then Delphi Update #2 will start normally. The above was taken from http://blogs.borland.com/chrishesik/archive/2006/04/27/24509.aspx So no excuse not to use BDS2006 anymore HTH, Cheers, Graham W. |

Jon Lloyd Duerdoth | Graham,
Yes I got your e-mail (thanks) and did reply. Unfortunately, it's not the perfect solution as all of the existing add-ins are ignored and installing add-ons from outside D2006 (like DBISAM) don't work. It looks like a complete deinstall/install (with sp1 only) is the temporary solution. <sigh> Jon Graham Wood wrote: > <<Jon Lloyd Duerdoth <jld@welshdragoncomputing.ca> wrote: > > > <<Except that Update 2 caused my notebook version not to work > <<and I didn't bring my installations disks with me to the summer home > > Hi Jon, > > In case you don't get the email I sent you: > > In the directory (USERHOME)\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\(some long directory > name) there is a file which BDS accesses during startup. Normally, it's a feature I didn't know about, but I guess you scored with the licensing issue. As far as I can remember, Delphi licensing has always been like this. Before I had my own notebook, I used to install Delphi on my clients computers, and develop using their machines whilst onsite. Since I was the only person using Delphi on those workstations, I met the license requirements. I could install Dephi on as many computers I needed, as long as I was the sole user. I sometimes think that this is partly why Borland was so flexible with their licenses. I also think that this is a fantastic license arrangement - by person, instead of machine. You may also find that mostl 3rd party vendors have a similar license for Borland components also. Cheers Adam. -- There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance-- that principle is contempt prior to investigation." - Herbert Spencer, British philosopher. |
