They expect people to believe that they wanted to have it check in daily so
that they could terminate the program right away ?  I wonder what their
concern is ?  Perhaps someone hijacking it and using it to spread a
virus/trojan ?

My firewall was noting this activity every day on my new notebook.
I started to deny access and am waiting for the hammer to fall

My desktop hasn't exhibited the same behaviour.

It obviously is all down to concern for their customers nothing to do with anti-piracy aka filling the coffers
