If only I could keep a straight face like this guy when talking to
telemarketers...

Hi Roy,

Really? Personally - if I was in his shoes after getting over the shock - I
recon I'd have a bit of a chuckle about it. I can understand though that
others may not feel the same way. Smile

You cold callers must really have some interesting stories you could tell.

Cheers

Adam.

And I am very happy that cold calls are not allowed here in Germany SmileI am
working for/with a UK based company, and they get calls about new kitchens,
assurances, cheaper phone calls etc. every hour or so.

L.S.

I sometimes do the following:

In the beginning of the 'conversation' I -very politly- say that I'm not
interested. Ofcourse the cold callers -because their 'script' tells them to
do so- carry on. Then I say that I would appreciate it if they ask their
manager if he/she would let them follow a course to understand the language
better. Because the calls are made in their native language they act
suprised: 'what do you mean?' Well, if you are having trouble of
understanding the words: 'I'm not interested' then... Ten to one that they
say they are sorry and disconnect.

I know it's their job and I don't want to be rude (sorry Roy) but -in
Holland- we get calls sometimes every other day. I must say I liked the
Telemarketeers Nightmare Show a lot Smile... come to think to it: why don't I
translate it to dutch and have some fun too (I know my two sons -17 and 19
years old- would like that!)

Regards, Harry

There's no need to apologise. I also get cold calls and I hate those who don't listen, and worse when you've just managed to get them to understand the highly complex word "NO" and hung up along comes their mate. My personal worst was 5 calls from the same telco in the same day. None of them could understand I was with BT and staying with BT.

Cold calling is a valid way of selling providing its at work NOT at home AND if the person doing it will take no for an answer fairly quickly. I have to believe that because its how I make a living.

Why? I go crazy if someone is grabbing me out of the flow. And my time is
precious, be it in free time or while working. And trust me, a market can
work perfectly without cold calls.

Brilliant - I do trust you, but can you please educate me. I HATE cold calling and I would love to not have to do it but I don't know a realistic alternative.

The people who do the cold calling are mostly employed
by someone, they are told not to put up with foul
language. I have such a foul mouth soldiers blush.
