new PC. I took a screenshot http://homepage.mac.com/dpuett/Desktop.jpg Anyone else care to share a pic of their IDE? |

At the risk of giving you a straight line - where's Venus from? Roy Lambert |

Steve Forbes Team Elevate | Hi Roy,
Dunno about Venus, but take a look at StorageLib from Deep Software (http://www.deepsoftware.ru/), .. one of the best, most stable component suites I have. Enables you to save anything to Registry, INI, XML, Bin seamlessly (i.e. swap from one to another), including auto-form position and state, and component properties. -- Best regards Steve "Roy Lambert" <roy.lambert@skynet.co.uk> wrote in message news:4C9DDABA-EEA1-4606-A14A-894FFB208520@news.elevatesoft.com... > David > > > At the risk of giving you a straight line - where's Venus from? > > Roy Lambert > |

They haven't done an update in years and it looks as if they let their domain name lapse as well. As a matter of fact, I had to contact them for a Delphi 7 update which they generously provided free of charge. Here is a screenshot of xoPersist http://homepage.mac.com/dpuett/oxPersist.jpg It has been the best settings storage component I have looked at. They also had the standard things like buttons, graphic button, splitters, and such. What was really cool about their software was they had this 'convert' function. For example, you already had a bunch of buttons on your form. You could right-click on a button and convert it to another button. http://homepage.mac.com/dpuett/convert.jpg That was nifty and convenient for a single component conversion. I contacted another company to purchase the Venus IP since it wasn't being developed but nothing came of it. |

Thanks for the heads up about the other component. I think LMD has something similar as well. Eventually, I'll have to find something else since oxPersist doesn't work in anything above D7. The problem is, well the problems are, I've already paid for Venus I like the way it works, and I prefer the layout. I know the current trend is to have a separate non-visual component for everything. I do like how Deep Software Storage has the option for encryption but I don't want to add another 5 non-visual components. I also don't like how it lists all of the components on the left side. I like how oxPersist only shows the stored items. Of course, oxPersist doesn't allow the storage of arbitrary strings, so I have a tab page with nothing but text fields to store strings. DSS has that functionality included. http://homepage.mac.com/dpuett/oxPersist.jpg Of course, I can't stick with D5 Enterprise and D7 Pro forever, so I'll eventually have to switch to a more modern storage component and it will probably be DSS. |

Steve Forbes Team Elevate | Hi David,

The non-visual component is simply a synonym for an instantiated class instance with a lifetime controlled by the owning form. In many cases (with StorageLib) I don't use the drag-n-drop components, preferring to create instances via code, .. works just a well. -- Best regards Steve "David" <dpuett@mac.com> wrote in message news:C2C52039.21406%dpuett@mac.com... > On 7/19/07 5:13 AM, in article > 1DED7919-A306-4F82-B8CD-B6E91C644946@news.elevatesoft.com, "Steve Forbes" > <ozmosys@spamfreeoptusnet.com.au> wrote: > >> Hi Roy, >> >> Dunno about Venus, but take a look at StorageLib from Deep Software >> (http://www.deepsoftware.ru/), .. one of the best, most stable component >> suites I have.
