Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | Are there still problems with Vista after SP1 and all the latest patches with a LAN based f/s DBISAM app? I ask because since having had my Datatank die on me and using a Vista PC as its replacement I'm getting hangs of upto 15 seconds every so often, sometimes only when trying to change records.

<< Are there still problems with Vista after SP1 and all the latest patches with a LAN based f/s DBISAM app? >> There are no issues as far as possible corruption (and AFAIK). << I ask because since having had my Datatank die on me and using a Vista PC as its replacement I'm getting hangs of upto 15 seconds every so often, sometimes only when trying to change records. >> This could simply be the OpLocks breaking any exclusive locks (don't make me explain it . It should be very quick, but who knows what they might have changed in Vista. Does this delay only happen once per process lifetime ? If so, then it is most likely the breaking of any OpLocks exclusive locks. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Since I wouldn't understand I won't, but I will ask could it set exclusive locks, then break them then reset them? >It should be very quick, but who knows what they might >have changed in Vista. > >Does this delay only happen once per process lifetime ? I popped a software firewall on to see if I'd acquired a nasty that my AV hadn't noticed but all traffic was over the LAN. Roy Lambert |

<< Since I wouldn't understand I won't, but I will ask could it set exclusive locks, then break them then reset them? >> It's possible that they implemented this type of functionality in the newer SMB protocol in Vista. The older SMB protocol did not do this, AFAIK. Once an exclusive op-lock was broken due to another user opening the same file, then all of the cached data was sent over to the server from the user with the exclusive lock, and then the file reverted to normal network performance from that point forward. << Nope. It might happen 3 times in a few minutes then not at all for several hours. >> Does it coincide with other users logging on or accessing tables/files that are in use by the another user ? -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

>Does it coincide with other users logging on or accessing tables/files that >are in use by the another user ? There's me and the email app sharing this LAN and since we both use the same tables its possible. Roy Lambert |
