Thread Grumble- D2007

I have degraded, I mean upgraded to D2007 for Win 32 several months ago, I guess more out
of the desire to pay CodeGear something than anything else.

I hate and despise the #$$(($ component layout (on the left side, instead of below the
toolbars.)

I have, of course, read the help and looked at properties.

Suggestions on how to replicate D7 (and I think before) placement. Finding stuff is
driving me nuts.

Thanks!

Try installing DDevExtensions from Andy Hausladen:

http://andy.jgknet.de/dspeedup/index.php?page=DDevExtensions

It have an option to restore the old style componente palette in D2006
and D2007.

From this same site, download the DelphiSpeedup to agilize the D2007
IDE, it works for D7 too.

http://andy.jgknet.de/dspeedup/index.php

Also, you can deactivate the option of the "Embedded Designer" in:
Tools -> Options -> VCL Designer
So, you could have the forms floating instead the default way of the
designer (that is a copy of the designer in visual studio).
Whatever, I think that is more comfortable in the old D7 way.

Hope that this help.

Regards.

Julio.

I felt like you to start with - stick with it - it get better. Also try the lookup approach - click on the filter and start typing the component name - brilliant.

I half agree - it does get better, but I still find it awkward.

One option is http://www.twodesk.com/minipalette/index.html

Herb,

<< Finding stuff is driving me nuts. >>

I agree that D2007 is a steep learning curve if you migrate direct
from D7 - like I did. The new component palette drove me wild at
first.

But now I actually appreciate the way in which I can type a component's
classname in the component palette - and the incremental search just
homes in on the right component.

That's way quicker than plodding through the tabs the old way in D7.

In my case in particular I'm writing front ends to databases; I am typically using the
same components over and over and could find them in my sleep. And I have. Smile

I was in this situation and found Marco Casntu's "Delphi 2007 Handbook" absolutely brilliant. It's a concise guide written for people upgrading from
D7 to D2007.

Yes, Cantu is an awesome resource. I believe that book is available through Lulu. I'll get it.
Thanks, great idea

Herb,

It certainly is on Lulu. I just bought Marco Cantu's "Delphi 2007 Handbook" there.

Go to:
    http://www.lulu.com
and search for "Cantu".
