I cannot continue to read this thread and not jump in here. I think I
was one of the early customers for DBISAM (#22 I think) and throughout
the past nearly ten years I, like so many others, have found Tim
Young's support exceptional: not just the technical help, but the
manner in which it is expressed. All of us who are active here or
merely lurk (as I do) know this.

I just cannot understand why anyone would protest at the new support
arrangements. If DBISAM or ElevateDB is being used in a commercial
project, then £30-50 (DBISAM) or £50-80 (ElevateDB) *per year* (in UK
terms) is nothing compared to the total costs for supporting one
commercial application. This is no more than 3 hours of software
developer time.

If we can give Tim a regular, sustainable income stream, that is good
for all of us.

In that case I am a software developer as well    Hmmm, guess not, cause
I do not get even a single dollar (euro) from my software       Well,
maybe that will change someday - allways look on the bright side of life!!

Reading ain't my thing. Movies, love them, and my favourite genre is SF.

BTW, I earn my money in the world of accounting. And writing software is
just a way of relaxing for me... You're not the only "awkward sod" as you
put it, I might fall in that category myself also

(My Dad was an accountant (cost accountant, to be exact), now retired).

Hi All

I have been watching this thread over the last week or so and decided to
stay quite when I could see that it was coming to an end and would hopefully
be sorted out by private email - I do think that it probably got as hot as
it did unintentionally and I hope that Mark and Tim have "kissed and made
up".  I for one really appreciate the great support from Tim that I have
received over the years.

What prompted me to send this reply was an email I received from Element5
this morning confirming the following
Your "Registry Mechanic - Subscription Renewal" license has been
successfully renewed by element 5 using the payment information provided at
signup. element 5 processes orders and collects payments on behalf of PC
Tools Limited.

They then went on to say that my credit card had been debited for $24 -
almost 50% of the original purchase price. The only communications I have
had with PCTools (Owners of Registry Mechanic) since the original purchase
of the latest version 1 year ago is this one

This has to take the biscuit for aggressive marketing - needless to say - I
will be demanding a refund because I certainly did not authorise this high
handed approach.

It really make's Tim's approach look like a give away
