Has anyone discovered a way to share an entire drive/partition from a Vista machine across a network.

I can share individual folders but really don't want to have "a cast of thousands" when I log onto that machine. I'd much prefer just to see the drives and drill down.

Hi Roy,

I have a Vista machine here that I have shared the C: drive on.
I just right clicked on the C: Drive, and selected

Properties -> Sharing -> Advanced Sharing

then checked the "Share this folder" tick box.

P.S. I have the User Account Control turned off, not sure if this makes
a difference.

Snap, but  when I try and connect to one of the drives on the Vista box I'm told I don't have permission, and this with every permission granted. The difference seems to be with a folder when I click share I get a form which has a box allowing me to choose who to share with, at drive level I don't.

Also have UAC off (don't know anyone who leaves it on <vbg>).

That should work.  And I have the "security cop from hell" turned on (and 64
bit for more pain).

I've had to do that before in testing, making sure Everyone is in the
Permissions tab with full permissions.

I thought it was - you go to sharing - advanced and see Everyone with full control, change & read checked - I didn't realise MicroMorons didn't really mean it.

Hi Roy

Sadly I can't claim much credit .. that goes to Google!
I just Googled: vista share drive
That link was the first one .. and it looked like there was no need to go past it. Surprised

You mean that's not logical how Vista came out of the box?

What's with you Britt's...   Wink

Perhaps we should send Gordan Ramsey over to Redmond and have him drop a few
pearls of wisdom's to the gang?   lol.
