I'm faced with the happy (or unhappy, depending on your POV) task of
developing some new applications for .NET (VS 2005) and need an embedded
database. (I'll continue using ElevateDB for Delphi for the forseeable
future.)

Is there a timeframe for an ElevateDB engine as a DLL for .net?

There's seems to be a dearth of entries in the category right now. I can
only find in terms of SQL databases (and truly embedded): VistaDB, Firebird
embedded, Access/Jet, and the new Blackfish from Codegear, which I assume
could also be used with VS 2005, but I can't figure out if it can be
purchased separately.

Does anyone know of others?

There are some object DBs such as db4o, which is moving away from the open
source model and will now have a high price tag; also no SQL.

I have done some testing using ElevateDB ODBC driver and .NET (VS2005)
and have had no problems with this setup.

The ADO driver is not very far away from completion either.

But that's accessing an ElevateDB server...

I'm asking about embedded for local applications.

The ODBC driver can access Server or Local tables.

testing before it is considered done and ready for release.
