Thread Repairing Files

"Al VAs"
Hi,

I have heard conversation previously, but just wanted to get an official
comment on the repairing of files.

We have a client who had a peculiar issue, where for a range of employees,
when they selected that employee from a drop-down list, it would not display
that employee's details.  If you scrolled record by record it was fine.

We ran a verify across the tables we thought could cause this sort of issue,
and it came up with no errors.  Running a repair also did not fix the issue.
However, running a repair with 'rebuild indexes' turned on did the trick.

Is this possible?  Are there situations where a verify doesnt highlight
index based issues?  Under what scenario would you choose to repair a table
WITHOUT choosing 'rebuild indexes'?

Regards

Alex

With any version prior to 3.30, yes, this is possible.  It is not possible
with 3.30, however, since it includes code that checks every single index
key during the repair.

Tim,

If I understand this correctly, with the current version indexes with errors
would be corrected without the rebuild checkbox checked. You would only need
to check the box if you literally wanted to rebuild the indexes irrespective
of errors. Correct?

I periodically run maintenance repairs and always have rebuilt indexes. Not
checking the box would make this much faster.
