Thread Report Writer wanted

I'm looking for an end user report writer (also include query builder or
similar technology) that will work with DBISAM V4 (Direct access or client
server preferred, ODBC is OK). Something oriented to users with some
computer skills. Any recommendations?

I second. (Personally, I use Reportbuilder, but it is waaay more expensive
than FastReports - so check out fastreports first). Both compile direct into
EXE without additional requirements for dll's etc.

Cheers

Adam.

What's your experience with the end user report writer?

My users needed some hand holding to get going with ReportBuilder
(I don't have FastReports).  Typically an end user with good
word processing skills plus lots of mouse skills (drag/drop/resize)
should have few problems (after the hand holding Smile)

Hi Robert,

The end user report writer is basically the same as the IDE report writer,
except that instead of saving the report as part of the DFM, you can link it
to a datasource, or file, etc.

It's not the easiest thing to use from an end-user point of view, but this
is traded off as opposed to having a limited end user report writer.

What sort of end user target group are you talking about (someone a little
saavy with report writing, or just someone who knows how to use a mouse and
word?) A little bit of training would definitely be required (either that,
or a tutorial and manual for them to work through).

Cheers

Adam.

QRDesign ( www.thsd.de ) is pretty good value for money and has a DBISAM
interface. It has a wizard for setting up one-record-per-page/one-record-
per-line/one-field-per-line reports, and the end-user can do simple reports
fairly easily. It is also capable of fairly complex multi-level-multi-sub-
report mixes, but they take a bit of getting used to.

The key thing is the query builder, the report writer is necessary but what
my users want is the ability to extract complex data in a simple way,
something I'm afraid can't be done.

Support is really bad, I therefore stopped using it.

ReportBuilder does allow building of the SQL required but
not the easiest to use for novices.
