Thread Slow db access over network from a one workstation (other workstations are fast)
Wed, Nov 1 2006 1:05 PMPermanent Link

Sam Jones
Hello from DBISAM land....

We are using DBISAM 4.02 circa May 25 2005 in our production application. Overall it works
great.

We do not use the DBISAM db server. For network use we simply share the db over the network.

Issue: On a 10 PC network, one PC experienced notably slower db access than others.

Network: Win2003 server, on a hot server system. All workstations less than 18 months old,
all of them fly.

All workstations experience fast application performance EXCEPT for one. The problem PC is
the newest of the bunch, the fastest, and appeared to experience real slowness accessing
the database (e.g. 5-10 times slower than the other PC's).

The problem PC experiences no other slowness in other apps, etc.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

It's most likely either a hardware issue (flaky NIC, hub, etc.) or there's
something specific in the configuration of the OS on that machine in terms
of anti-virus software, etc.
