I produced my app with D4 and DBISam 2 plus a couple of tools like
Infopower's grid, etc.  I dont have Vista on a computer yet, and a
customer tells me I am crashing consistently at the point that the main
dbisam data grid is accessed.

Is there any reason why this should happen?  Is it possible that it is
simply some error in my code that was not caught by 98 or ME or 2000 or
XP but Vista chokes on?  Or is it likely that my old tools are just no
longer operational on Vista?

(It also seems as tho my old Help files are no longer ok on Vista.)

I think you are in another decade.... D4.......

ok I haven't left D7.. but really, did you think M$ would sit by quitely and
let us make a living.....

BTW I saw your post struggling with HLP files..... goto www.ec-software.com
and .... it will solve your problem...

Also on Feb 14/2007 upgrade to EDB.... I AM!

Hi Jerry,

If your customer is having problems with your app and it worked fine on
Win XP then I would suggest your customer try to run the app in Win XP
compatibility mode. I don't have Vista yet, but I think you can choose a
compatibility mode in the app's shortcut.

Also, .HLP files are no longer supported in Vista. Does your help
authoring tool allow you to output into HTML Help format (.CHM)?

Regards,

Jason Lee

You're right, of course.  One of my customers just upgraded from the DOS
version that used BTree Filer; I wrote that in 1991.  But that's my
market.

Thanks- I appreciate the help
Jerry

Thanks, Jason.

I did a little research and while XP compatibility is something I can
try to sell, I do believe that it requires that the user have
Administrator priveleges, and that will certainly be a problem for some
of my customers.

No way around it that I can see-  I'm going to have to purchase a Vista
computer and start development and debugging on it.

Before you do that, you might want to investigate which (if any) versions of
Delphi run under Vista.
Delphi 7 doesn't, and it hung my Vista test box so thoroughly that the power
switch was the only way out!

You'd be better off buying VMWare Workstation and some more RAM. Then you
can have as many PCs as you want.
