Boot Sale Bargain |

"Rita" | I bought a box marked "wishy washy"
for £5 at a car boot sale. The lady selling it had lots of old manuals and 5.25 and 3.5 floppies keyboards mice and printed boards and boxes of old HDD a real clear out of her late husbands workshop. The last thing I need in my house is an old PC but I figured the "wishy washy" bit meant colour fault and the box looked newish. So for a fiver it might be a bargain and it was. I got it home connected a keyboard mouse and monitor after looking inside 1st of course, it has an Athlon 64 bit chip 2gb ram 2 Hitachi HDD a cd-rom no dvd ? I have a very similair box and the only difference I can see is the makers badge and no dvd or floppy. My keys even work on the door I tried installing Win XP pro 64 it told me no HDD found the same with any Win OS so I ran the spotmau.com rescue disk after playing around making partitions and so on the only OS I could install was SuSE Linux 10.3 so why oh! why cant Windows see a HDD ? or better still how can I install Win ? Oh! the "wishy washy bit is no red but thats the video card" Rita |

I opened up the case and there was a bunch of black dust on the ribbon cable. I pulled the hd and set it on my desk and watched as ants, one after the other, came out of a small hole. Jim |

"Rita" | I have tried that and set them all to auto
still no joy "wishy washy" was a crack on the graphics card found by accident when my hand knocked the board the pic was full of red I had set it via the monitor control to 100% red and 40% blue and green. That green stuff you see on printed circuit boards is some kind of paint on top of copper, I found a link it said scrape the green stuff and expose the copper around the crack and bridge the gap with a blob of solder. I got a guy down the street todo just that and its fine.
