Thread Utility uploaded to binaries

I uploaded a utility to the binaries newsgroup yesterday but I thought I might get more of a reaction if I cross-posted here. The
post is under the title 'The "Poor Boy's" Data Dictionary' and the  content of the original post is as shown below. Then again,
maybe I am reinventing the wheel and it is not really of interest.

One of the issues that comes up occasionally on the forum is that of updating the structure of existing installations on customer
sites when you make design changes to the database. It is an issue that has discouraged me from advising some customers that
we have updated our software because the new version may be incompatible with the database version that they have installed.
With some customers working on versions that are five years old, we needed a way of updating their databases that did not
involve incremental patches.

My solution, though not the only approach, is to use XML to define the current version of the database and use this to restructure
the customer database. We have only just completed a utility to do this and I thought it might be of interest to some DBISAM
users so it is attached.

Please regard this as a work in progress and BACKUP before use.

Comments, suggestions, etc. welcome provided that they are constructive.

Tim,
I haven't posted a binary before. Did I do something wrong or was Norbert simply
assuming the the attachment had been included in the cross-posting (it wasn't)?

Also, I have a revised version. Do I just upload "on top" of the original binary?

Best regards,
Mike

Hi Darren,

I'd imagine that there must be more than two of us !!

Then again, with so many developers opting for Visual Basic as a programming language
people who program in "real" programming languages are pretty scarce. When I first
studied programming (many years ago) Basic was regarded as a prototyping and learning
tool rather than a programming language. I still see it the same way.

Best regards,
Mike

Well there seems huge demand for C# or Java. Any remaining Delphi people I
know seem to want to go into one or the other, I quite like C# myself.
Thankfully I've managed to avoid VB all these years - definitely I would
have had a lot more job opportunities - but I could never bring myself to
work with it.
