I'm trying to move my Delphi 5 development to a Vista system.  I've
installed Delphi 5 successfully and it runs, fine seemingly.

I then installed the dbisam package (version 3), it installed fine.  The
next time I ran Delphi, it complained that the bpl file could
not be found.  It's there I can see it and the path , etc are shown in the
registry under Known packages.  This time
trying to install the package again gives the module not found error.
Removing it from the package list and then shutting down delphi,
restarting and installing works again but next time starting Delphi, it
complains it can't find the package.

I'm also experiencing this difficulty with installing some other packages.

Is there something I should know about Delphi 5 and Vista (Vista ultimate
BTW) ?

That certainly looked like the problem, except now I remember I turned off
UAC some time ago on the
Vista machine, I'm the only user account with admin privs.  There is nothing
in the Virtual Store as per
the document you cited.

I went back to the Elevate Software customer center and downloaded the setup
for 3.30 to the
Vista machine and ran it.  The components did not install into the palette
but there was an entry
in the package list and if I check it, they do then appear on the palette,
the only problem is
that when I shutdown Delphi and then restart it, the palette entries are
gone again and I have
to repeat the process of checking the entry in the package list.  I do not
now get the error message
about 'module not found' as I was getting before.

Before I was simply trying to install the package by selecting the .bpl file
which was giving the
behavior detailed in my previous email.  I cannot install any package that
way without seeing
the 'module cannot be found' behavior as previously described.

The only thing that did install on the palette that is always there when
Delphi is restarted
is Raize components, I used their setup program.

I presume this is a Vista issue (?) but it is certainly driving me nuts.
Any other ideas ?

Try

1. uninstall DBISAM from Delphi
2. delete all files relating to DBISAM (apart from the setup files)
3. create a new folder outside of program files
4. install DBISAM into that folder

I have D6 & D2006 with DBISAM & ElevateDB installed on Vista and no problems of that nature. I have two separate folders for 3rd party Delphi components, one for D6 and one for D2006.


If you want to swap moans about Vista generally I have a large bag full.

ROTFLMAO. To get around  M$ "security" enhancements, folks end up installing
everything in mydocuments. Beautiful.

In my case its just a side effect of how I've organised stuff since W95. Since the OS was sooooo stable I partitioned the harddrive into c d e f.

c was for the windows stuff that was reinstalled every few months
d for data
e for development
f for anything else

That way when W95 went boing it only took an hour or two rather than three days.
