Problem running DB Server as a service |

"Paul Coshott" | Hi All,
I have a client that is experiencing very slow database access when more than one user is logged in. This is using a local connection. So I thought I would try a remote connection using the db server. This all works fine when the db server is being run as an application, but if I install it as a service, the app will not connect and I get errors. I am using /install and I am not using /nointeract. (Although I have also tried with /nointeract) I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, but the help file says : ========================= dbsrvr.exe /install /nointeract This will install the service as a non-interactive service and the database server will not display a user interface when it is started. ========================= and when I don't use /nointeract, I am not getting a user interface. I also don't see an icon in the system tray. Does anyone have any idea why it works fine as an app but not as a service. I assume as it works as an app, then all my settings are correct. Any ideas ? Cheers, Paul |

What version are you using, on what operating system and what errors are you getting ? > Does anyone have any idea why it works fine as an app but not as a > service. I assume as it works as an app, then all my settings are correct. Without more information I can only guess... Maybe it's a permissions problem. When the server runs as a service, by default it uses the SYSTEM account so you must make sure that the SYSTEM account has read and write permissions in the database directories. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

"Paul Coshott" | Hi Fernando,
The operating system is Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server. DBISAM Version is 4.26 b1. Your guess about not having read write permissions got me thinking about the mapped network drive I was using. I changed the database folder to use unc, and it works now. If I install the service without the /nointeract switch, what should i see? How do I interact with the db server ? Jan Ferguson Data Software Solutions, Inc. Team Elevate | Paul,
<<If I install the service without the /nointeract switch, what should <<i see? How do I interact with the db server ? You will not see the server icon in the Tool Tray. To interact with the DB server you would use the DBISAM Server Administration Utility (located with the Additional Utilities.) -- Regards, Jan Ferguson [Team Elevate] |
