This was my understanding as well. Something happened between theory and
practice.

My problem is that of the four boxes here this is the only one with the heft
and memory needed, excepting a server (and don't want to do development on
that one). If push comes to shove, I do have one other option but it's
painful. Will putz around some more first. I do, however, believe that there
is some pathing or other conflict(s) with the concurrent D5 installation.

I have partially solved the problem of the invisible packages -- they show
up only when a form is displayed in the IDE. This earlier post to
Embarcadero will explain where I'm at now.

This is a follow-up to my earlier post, support case 00058554. I have solved
the mystery. In D5 the complete component palette is always visible
regardless of whether you are in working in the project file, a unit or
form. Not so, I find with D2009. The full Tool Palette appears ONLY when
working with the form displayed. Since most of our app's forms were long ago
defined I work 95% of the time in unit view. All the packages are now
showing up (to the best of my knowledge, anyway). I do, however, have three
remaining problems:

1) The system is not finding unit IWAppForm (IntraWeb - I am a user of it
since version 1) even though IWAppForm.dcu is in D:\IntraWeb 10.0\LibCDS6
which, in turn, is in ALL library, browsing and debug paths. Don't
understand why.

2) How do I display the components in my DataModule (independent of
UserSession). When I do F12 or Shift-F12 with the DataModule unit display I
get nothing. Now, this may be because there is a "not found" Rave component
on the form, so the form (.dfm) got aborted. Will test this tomorrow.

3) Finally, I downloaded Marco Cantu's book as one of the bonuses but I find
I cannot print from the PDF without a password of some sort. I have to be
able to selectively print from it or it's going to be of very limited value.
(His very first book on Delphi was the first one I bought years ago.) If you
can give me some guidance on these issues I would be grateful.
