Hi

I try to associate the DAT extension to dbsys.exe with windows 7. It seems impossible because after having selected the dbsys.exe file, it doesn't
appear in the list. Do anybody can give me a hint?

Many thanks.

I'll have to try it out and see what I can find out before I can answer.

Just use the "open with ..." command from right-click menu  and then "Choose
default program" - that windows let's you browse for any exe.

Works on Win7 Pro (32bit).

Curious - definitely works with English version as I do have dbsys
associated with dat files.

Any chance you have an AntiVirus or Spyware protection that prevents file
association changes ? (or general system changes).

The other place to try, if you have not already,  is the Control Panel ->
Default Programs as it has a option for file association (explorer path is
"Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations") - Sorry, I have
no idea how it's named in French version.

Scroll to .dat and try changing it there (this should be same as "open
with..." command though but maybe worth a try)

Thanks for all your suggestions, but I laready tried all of them. I will continue to investigate. At least I know that it is possible to set the
association!

Thanks again.

That is bizarre.  Are you actually using any anti-virus software ?  Windows,
by itself, should not care what the name of the executable is.

There could have been some screwup in registry from previous attempts. I was
reading a warning about the latest problems with Windows, some dating back
to W 3.1. Meanwhile, I see the executives of Toyota immediately assuming
responsibility for a defective product. A different culture, I guess...

Robert,

This is true - certain parts of Windows and other MS products are
particularly sensitive to registry entries being structured in a certain
way.  For example, the default value not being set to an empty string for a
registry key.

Well, you'd think that people would learn that it's the cover-up that always
makes it much worse.
