Hello,

the aim: application on local computer, databases on a webserver for multiuser access. most of our customers have only a virtual server. i am not experienced with that, so i ask myself : What are the requirements, what is to do, what is to keep in mind?

Where can i find tips, articles or technical bulletins or examples about issue?

Thank you.

Are you wanting to use:

1) Terminal services/remote desktop, or
2) Web access (ASP, Intraweb, ISAPI), or
3) Direct Internet access to a DBISAM Database Server running on the web
server, or
4) Some combination of the above

?

Thanks,

Thank you Tim.
As i stated in my post, i am not experienced with this issues. so i cant answer you.

I want a solution which is easy to handle for the customer (or me). Perhaps someway like this: a)install application on local machine b) get some files on the virtual web-server (via ftp?) c)configure a file that holds the information about the ip address. On the other hand it should run stable, quick and secure.

At the moment in the multiuser environment i do so. Install package for local machine, install package for server and then configure a text file on client side which holds the path informations for file server mode, or ip informations for client server use via database server.

You must know. Alls my apps are locate in a lower price range, $50 - $200 for a single license. For much customers the low price is one important thing. So they want make the installation of their own to save money for the service. So i am in the need of a simple setup and low requirements.

Perhaps this informations will help you to give me a hint.

Thank you

Well, the DBISAM Database Server can run over the Internet, but the problem
is getting a server machine that has an open port facing the Internet.  Many
ISPs won't open extra ports in their firewalls for any non-standard
services, so you'll need to first find an ISP that will a) put you on a
Windows server and b) allow the DBISAM Database Server port (12005) to be
open on their firewall.

Do you already have an ISP ?

Apart from that, everything else would work the same as what you use now
with the C/S setup.  You might, however, have to take some extra steps to
optimize certain aspects of your application for use in a WAN, as opposed to
LAN, environment.   Certain things like lookup fields can be costly over a
WAN.
