Hi,

one of our customers has a lot of "10225 Cannot read lock the table xxx"
errors
it occurs mostly about 19.00h on their workstations. they have a network but
dbisam is running as a peer-to-peer an not with the dbisam server.
version 4.29 build 1
they have a server-pc.

I 've googled this error and somewhere I read that this problem has to do
with the windows version ( SBS 2003 ?? )
in that conversation the solution was there by removign the server-pc (
windows SBS 2003 ? ), but with our customer that's no option.

does anyone has more info about this problem ?

kind regards

Erik

First question is what happens around 19:00 on their network - automated backup or anything?

Hi Roy,

it's not exactly at 19.00 , but around that time: could be around about
18.30 to 19.30, but it happens every day

(the backup is running at night, they have customers until about 22.30)

If it happens every day in that time slot there must be something happening otherwise it would be more random in nature. It doesn't have to be a backup it could be an automated anti-virus scan of the disk causing everything to lock.

Erik,

Are you running a native DBISAM backup at that time ?  If so, then make sure
to run it from the machine where the database resides in order to ensure
that it takes the least amount of time as possible to complete the backup.

Roy and Tim,

there is a tape backup and our application does not use de DBIsam backup
function.
I agree that **something** must be problemmaker.

I mentioned the google action, where I have seen a forum-question and answer
where the Windows server software was involved. That's why I've posted this
question on this dbisam forum, hoping someone has heard of it...

Erik

If its because of the Windows server software it must still be doing something during that time slot otherwise it would happen more randomly.

Are you able to look at the list of services and scheduled jobs? If so can you compare with another machine to see what if anything is different?

You wouldn't get a "read lock error on table xxx" error if the problem is
being caused by an external software component or the OS.  The read locks
are completely a DBISAM construct.  If there was an external backup/OS
issue, you would see an error like "OS error - access denied" or something
similar.
