Thread Please don't laugh ... .dat files gone forever

Orixa Systems

A client has run some sort of anti-virus program (or something) & deleted all the ".dat" files of their DBISAM database.

They have a back up policy, which is to back up the contents of the database folder every day & after 1 week throw away backups older than 1 week. I had left the system being told there was a "good back up system in place" ... its a big organisation so I believed them (last time I will do that)

As the use of the system is seasonal, the last data was entered in mid-September, they have now returned to use it again and "its not working"

... I have .idx files and .blb files, but the .dat files (and only those ...) are gone.

I know this is a hopeless situation, but I wonder whether there is anything I can do, for example to extract data from the blb files.

Probably not - I'd email or phone Tim directly rather than waiting on a response here.

Forlone hope - find an undelete program (mine is fru.exe or FreeUndelete) and pray.

Adam,

No, but you may be able to use an undelete utility, like Roy suggested.  The
key is to make sure that you stop any disk activity on the affected disk
*immediately*.  Failure to do so could cause all of the deleted files to
become unrecoverable as the space is re-used by the file system.
