Thread ODBC Doesn't seem to have installed

Sorry for a horrible and vague post.

I have run 430b2dbisamodbcstd.exe on a Windows 7 computer. The installation seems to have gone fine, I can run
dbodbccfg.exe and I see a long list of ODBC drivers with DBISAM at the top.

However, when go through Control Panel, to Admin Tools, to Data Sources (ODBC), System DSN, Add I don't see the DBISAM driver listed.

In fact I only see MicroSoft SQLServer listed (!??)

After the installation, in the Registry there was no entry for DBISAM under HKLM\Software\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI so I have created these entries, as per other posts on the news groups. But that doesn't seem to have helped.

I am sure in the past when I have installed the ODBC driver it has just immediately popped up in the ODBC admin utility ... so I'm not sure what has gone wrong.

Hi Adam,

Is this on a 64 bit machine?

The ODBC driver is 32 bit so to setup a System DSN you need to run the
32 bit ODBC control panel usually located here:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Yup & that _was_ the problem ... thanks for the suggestion of the 32 bit driver!

M$ do piss me off sometimes, there is no way of knowing that the ODBC applet you see in Win7 is 64 bit only, it even looks identical to the 32 bit version. Without the suggestion of using the 32 bit EXE I would have been stumped.

NEXT PROBLEM ...

I am now trying to open the datasource in OpenOffice (Frown

Actually this is pretty easy & seems flawless up to the point of generating the list of database tables from the ODBC Datasource.

However, I am then unable to connect and actually see data or table contents. I just get a "SQL Error" message returned.

Hi Adam,

When you open the database within Open Office click on:

Edit -> Database -> Advanced Settings

Then uncheck the tick boxes:

Use catalogue name in SELECT statements
Use schema name in SELECT statements
