Advice on migrating from Oracle DB to ElevateDB |

"Hüseyin Aliz" | Hi All,
I got a request about migrating/converting a project (online flyticket system) based on Oracle DB to ElevateDB. I want to ask the wise guys if it's possible and if so, what the options are. Current project: - Windows / Oracle Database. - Apache running on top of DB/Code to access data. - System contains a LOT of PL/SQL commands. Wanted/possible project: - Windows / ElevateDB Database. - Access to system online (Apache?). What can be done to convert PL-SQL code to ElevateDB code? Please dont hesitate to ask if more information needed. Thanks in advance, Regards, Hüseyin A. |

It really depends on how much of the code is Oracle propriety stuff and how much is bog standard sql. I can only think of two approaches since I'm pretty sure that no automated converter exists: 1. Read through the manuals for both code sets, identify the differences, either scan the existing code and alter manually or develop something to automate 2. Drag the lot into ElevateDB and try running it. Fix errors as found (naturally as each one is found fix it for the whole code base) Then test, test and test again. If they haven't used to much propriety stuff I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by trying approach number 2. Roy Lambert [Team Elevate] |

<< I got a request about migrating/converting a project (online flyticket system) based on Oracle DB to ElevateDB. As long as you're up-to-date on your support plan, I can provide as much help as you need. As Roy said, once you've converted something once, you simply repeat the conversion everywhere else it is found. << - Access to system online (Apache?). >> Just to confirm - is Apache running under Windows or Linux ? If Windows, then no problem. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

"Hüseyin Aliz" | Hi Roy & Tim,
Thank you both. Really appricate your thoughts. I did not have a chance to look at the pl-sql codes yet or the datamodel for that matter, but will do it soon. Tim, it's currently running on windows, so it does not matter if windows or linux. I'll post more information as soon as i have them. << Tim, it's currently running on windows, so it does not matter if windows or linux. I'll post more information as soon as i have them. >> Cool. It would be interesting to see a full-blown Oracle conversion. I know that we have some customers that have done so, but I haven't participated in it. << Have a nice weekend all >> You too. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
