Thread "Pause" functionality for the server

Hi Tim

I have a suggestion regrading the server.

I always customize the server application for clients. They feel great when the server is "their server" Smile

Anyway, previously, I always used to update the source code of the server application and many other objects like the engine and related objects
such as the server sessions etc... to extend their functionality. Mainly:

1. Add a layer of communication between a remote session and the server. I found in the Product Map that this functionality is already listed (but
unfortunately, no version has been scheduled). Never mind. I'll wait for it...

2. A "Pause" state for the server. The server has Start, Pause, and Stop functions. I used the setting "Deny login" (I do not remeber the name
exactly) to implement the pause function. This "Paused" state is very useful for the administrator when he/she wants to do some work on the
server (like run jobs or replace database, etc...) which  send a message to the users that the server will be "offline in 1 hour" and in the same
time deny login to other users with a message such as ("The server is offline for 2 hours for maintenanace")...

I wish you can add this one too to your list. They both are kind of related and extend the capabilities of the product to develop excellent servers.

By the way I stopped doing these changes. Imagine rewriting or copy and paste with each update Smile

Kind Regards

We've already got that one - it's still on the list from DBISAM, although
EDB is much better suited for this type of functionality.   DBISAM had some
issues with adding this functionality due to its architecture.
