EDBManager editing hot keys |

"David Cornelius" | I'm starting to use the EDBManager a lot, having finally switched to EDB
from DBISAM. I know you've got more important issues to address (like the forth-coming EDB 2.0), but I noticed a few (what I call) "standard functionality" hot-keys that didn't do anything: Ctrl+Tab / Shift+Ctrl+Tab: Switch tabbed windows. There were some windows that wouldn't switch even by selecting them in the Windows menu. I was forced to use the mouse. (Actually, I just noticed that it DOES switch windows, but only from the "properties" tab to the next tab or previous tab. Huh?) Ctrl+RightArrow / Ctrl+LeftArrow: Jump forward/backward a word in the code. I have to hold down the arrow keys to move across a line. (Or actually use the mouse. Gaah!) Shift+Delete / Shift+Insert: Shift+Delete deletes the same as the Delete key without the Shift. I'm accustomed to Shift+Delete actually cutting to the clipboard and Shift+Insert pasting from the clipboard. Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V work, so this isn't a big deal. But after hitting Shift+Insert to paste one time, the insert/overwrite mode changed and I didn't realize it. Which brings me to my next point... Insert/Overwrite mode indicator: This isn't a hot-key, but just the word "Insert" appears or disappears in a little box on the status bar. When I first hit the Insert key (above) and didn't realize I was no longer in insert mode, I started typing and realized I was in overwrite mode. I looked on the status bar, but didn't see anything to confirm that. After hitting Insert, I saw the "Insert" indicator come on and realized where the mode indicator was. This is truely a minor point, but I'd like to see either a grayed-out "Insert" or the word "Overwrite" toggled in it's place. This would tell me explicitly which mode I'm in rather than simply telling me when I'm in Insert mode and letting me guess otherwise. Ctrl+O / Ctrl+N / Ctrl+S: It'd be nice to have hot-keys to open an existing document, create a new document, or save an existing script. This last one is especially important because I like to save often and quickly saving before I switch to a different application or leave my computer for a few minutes is something I do often. If this is the only application I use that does NOT allow Ctrl+S for saving, then I might hit it thinking everything is OK when I haven't actually saved. I almost feel silly mentioning these things, but they caught me off-guard this morning and I thought I'd mention them here. I really appreciate the nice manager for working with the database and a lot of the new features in EDB. I'm having to switch my thinking around a little for some things, but the payoff is worth it. Thanks for the great job! David Cornelius corneliusconcepts.com custom designed software |

I hope a manual for EDBManager is coming as well - I know I only found out about some features after moaning about their lack and being put right by you. Roy Lambert |

<< I hope a manual for EDBManager is coming as well - I know I only found out about some features after moaning about their lack and being put right by you. >> Yeah, it's waiting on the transition to a different help format since MS decided to kill off WinHelp, and I don't want to use HTMLHelp because it's clunky and will probably get the axe pretty soon also. Of course, MS Help 2 is nice, but they don't let you redistribute any of it. I'm working on a custom HTML help format/viewer for the EDB Manager that won't be subject to being discontinued on us out of the blue. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

"David Cornelius" | I hope this isn't delaying version 2.0. I'd be happy with just a PDF for
now. That's what I always use anyway as the Delphi help system is too slow to be useful. -- David Cornelius CorneliusConcepts.com custom designed software "Tim Young [Elevate Software]" <timyoung@elevatesoft.com> wrote in message news:646A1DBC-D927-448C-A83E-B75E49952296@news.elevatesoft.com... > Roy, > > << I hope a manual for EDBManager is coming as well - I know I only found > out about some features after moaning about their lack and being put right > by you. >> > > Yeah, it's waiting on the transition to a different help format since MS > decided to kill off WinHelp, and I don't want to use HTMLHelp because it's > clunky and will probably get the axe pretty soon also. "David Cornelius" | Good. No hard-to-find technical bugs, then.
Where do I ask to get on the beta test list? -- David Cornelius CorneliusConcepts.com custom designed software "Tim Young [Elevate Software]" <timyoung@elevatesoft.com> wrote: > > No, not at all. 2.0 was mainly delayed by the new support plan changes. |
