2.28 install |

Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | I'm building a nice big database to try 2.28 with. I have a partly developed but abandoned application which has a utility to build test data - its upto c230k people records so far and its taking quite a long time
I compiled that application under 2.27. I know its a beta and things like this will be sorted in the release version but I just went to install the 2.28b4 beta and found a small problem - it seems to be adding the delphi version as part of the path without me asking it to. I browse and select C:\3rdParty\ElevateDB but C:\3rdParty\ElevateDB\Developer Studio 2006 (Delphi) is shown in the edit box It also doesn't remove the previously installed version. I'm installing in a purpose create VM to do compiles so no big deal. Roy Lambert |

<< It also doesn't remove the previously installed version. >> I think the EDB Betas don't remove rtm versions on purpose. |

I first tried installing into a VM which still had 2.18 installed (I prefer real machines so haven't used in a while) and the beta installer leaves 2.18 there - both bpl file and in Delphi's KnownPackages. When I try and start Delphi it complains that I can't have two versions of TEDBEngine. Roy |

The beta will not uninstall a prior version of a different product type. Standard. But the question has to be why? Since a standard version seems to need to be uninstalled anyway I don't understand why you differentiate between stabdard & beta or is this an Inno setup thing as well? I assume that when it goes to release I'll need to uninstall the beta manually? Its not a big problem just a minor annoyance. Roy |

<< Standard. But the question has to be why? Since a standard version seems to need to be uninstalled anyway I don't understand why you differentiate between stabdard & beta or is this an Inno setup thing as well? >> It doesn't necessarily need to be uninstalled. It's pretty easy in the Delphi IDE to be able to turn off selected packages and/or modify the library search paths so that you can simultaneously use both. Or, better yet, don't try to use both in the same IDE instance (use a VM, etc.) << I assume that when it goes to release I'll need to uninstall the beta manually? >> Yes, but "manually" is a stretch, by any measure. You'll need to hit the Uninstall button in the Control Panel. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

It's pretty easy in the Delphi IDE to be able to turn off selected packages and/or modify the library search paths so that you can simultaneously use both. Or, better yet, don't try to use both in the same IDE instance (use a VM, etc.) Even in a VM (which is what I did), since its not a clean install, I'd experience the same. I have a number of homebrew components using ElevateDB which need recompiling each non-build change (only two packages these days) and I haven't the faintest idea on how to cope with sorting that out. ><< I assume that when it goes to release I'll need to uninstall the beta manually? >> > >Yes, but "manually" is a stretch, by any measure. You'll need to hit the Uninstall button in the Control Panel. Hey - I have to move my finger to click the mouse - that's manually Roy |
