As usual, no. Makes me think someone should run an NNTP server and move it all over. Bagsy not me. But it did make me look at Discourse, which has an app, and thus might allow multi-site etc to work. If it could do what nntp does in effect, then it could be a winning choice.

Nah - its just that it doesn't directly generate revenue so they don't spend money on it.

OTOH it give you real confidence in their software if they can't even run an NNTP server.

I think we should volunteer anyone with the name "Tim Young" after all he's already got an NNTP server and probably doesn't have enough to do <duck>

The point about NNTP is you choose the client and you have a single environment for all the forums. Single app to open, you can download, keep, throw away, search etc. There's no single point of data loss. When Tim's server went down if he hadn't had a good backup I, personally, could have given him every DBISAM & ElevateDB post. I'd guess that if Embarcadero asked the community could supply a lot of the posts that have gone walkabout.

I'd better stop now before I start foaming at the mouth

I presume it is still down for everyone? I've not had anything since. Boom, connection to Delphi gone...

Yes.  I had a look on the Forum recently and there is a post by Remy
answering someone by confirming that the server was 'down' and that it
was well known to be unreliable.

I've just been sent a link to the following post:

https://plus.google.com/+AchimKalwa/posts/CpEwJhFhYNf

Click the "View 42 previous comments" then read Jim McKeeth's post.

<<The forums are offline - they were the target of very heavy spamming, which was causing a lot of side effects. We are moving to a whole new community platform. That involves combining the legacy forums and the new community forums. Things will be migrating over time, so stay tuned.>>

I think I'll visit the on-line forum to express my lack of gruntle. This happening is unfortunate but their marketing department is able to send me wonderful notifications about the product but not a peep about this.

Right I've selected MediaRelations@embarcadero.com to receive my ire Smiley

Here's what I've sent

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello whoever is reading this.

Can you tell me why you are able to send me product announcements but are unable to provide notification that the nntp forums are off-line because of spam attacks.

It wouldn't matter if it was only a few hours, or even a few days (we're used to that) but its weeks now.

I, personally, find it disturbing that a technology company is unable to either provide an nntp service that is beloved by its users or to notify the users of its prolonged unavailability.

I'll let you know if they bother to reply

from gmail (I sent it from my Delphi linked gmail address)
