I was receiving Conversion Error when assigning values to parameters.
The exception is raised in edbvalue TEDBValue.SetAsVariant because varShortInt is not accepted.
This particular piece of code is:

        case VarType(Value) of
           {$IFDEF D12ORHIGHER}
           varSmallint,varByte,varShortInt:
           {$ELSE}
           varSmallint,varByte:
           {$ENDIF}
              AsSmallInt:=SmallInt(Value);
