I just had another 506 error and thought I'd have a look in the event log - nothing nada - but it did point out a shortcoming with the logging.

Can anyone tell me which query etc this refers to:

An error was found in the statement at line 9 and column 21 (Missing SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, ALTER, DROP, GRANT, REVOKE, BACKUP, RESTORE, COMPARE, SET BACKUPS, MIGRATE, REPAIR, VERIFY, OPTIMIZE, IMPORT, EXPORT, DISCONNECT, REMOVE, PUBLISH, UNPUBLISH, SAVE, LOAD, SET UPDATES, COPY FIL

Nope - thought not.

I can tell its SQL related Smiley I know it occurs on both server & client, and because its sometimes a background thread reference on the server I can figure out  its email related. That lets me guess at a program but that's it.

If its possible can we have some extra pointer to the problem please - the sql would be good.

I've already answered this once: when you see this type of error, it means that the SQL is empty or completely invalid because the *very first keyword* in the SQL isn't correct or is missing.

The log file is a circular log file, so it requires fixed-sized records and in most cases, has no issue showing enough of the SQL to give you an idea what the problem is (when combined with the error message).  This can't be changed, so there's no point in continually asking for it.

I hadn't realised that UK English and US English had diverged to the extent that twice roughly a year apart, first time as part of an email discussion following incident report 4167, is continuously

As part of our email discussions I suggested removing the list of every verb possible and replacing it with a simple  "Missing verb:" to free up space for some useful information. One of your responses was

<<The problem is that the log uses fixed-length records in order to allow for
it to be circular and fast, so there's only a limited amount of space.  What
I might be able to do is offer an option to turn on logging of SQL
statements as separate files, also.>>

I presume this is no longer a possibility.

Roy,

It was continually, not continuously.  You have a tendency to ask for the same thing over and over again, and that means that you're either a) ignoring the fact that I've indicated for as long as we've been around that I log *everything* that shows up on here as a request, or b) you're purposefully trying to waste my time.  I'm going to go with the generous assumption of a) here, hence my initial response.

<< I presume this is no longer a possibility. >>

See a).  Just because I don't talk about your personal needs constantly does not equate to me ignoring them or saying that they aren't a possibility.  They are, frankly, just not that important right now.

I will accept the correction. However, my point still stands

>You have a tendency to ask for the same thing over and over again, and that means that you're either a) ignoring the fact that I've indicated for as long as we've been around that I log *everything* that shows up on here as a request, or b) you're purposefully trying to waste my time. I feel that you are over exaggerating again! If you wish I'll take the time to analyse all of my posts and emails and see precisely how often I've asked for things and post the result here. If you're correct I'll apologise for it.

You've also missed option c) - I have a problem and would like a solution. I understand that EWB is your primary concern but its not mine. I would also like to point out that this is the first time this suggestion has been posted on the newsgroups. Previously it was discussed via email. You may have perfect faith in your stacks of paper (on previous occasions we have discussed the height of the stack so yes I know its there) but since I didn't sit and watch you write it I don't. I have also had the experience of items being lost, had coffee (or tea) spilt on then to render them illegible, and old accounts stored in the garage being part eaten by mice.

I also find the statement "generous assumption of a)" offensive. The amount of time and effort I have expended over the years trying (and sometimes failing) to help people would really be enhanced by "purposefully trying to waste my time" wouldn't it?

Please re-read your response to me and point out anything that indicates you have this in your log and that it may eventually surface.

I realise that the $99 I contribute to your coffers each year isn't much but a civil response to my first post would have been nice
