No Modality in Alter Trigger/Procedure etc.. Windows

Just a minor thing, but when developing functions/triggers/procedures the Modal Window is a little bit of a pain. If I have a procedure I want to modify I usually want to refer back to tables, field names and definitions when making a change. As its a modal window I can't do this.

What I usually do is Alter the procedure and immediately enter some invalid SQL so the procedure gets sent to  a non-modal window and I can then make changes while referring back to the database schema. Clearly its not the end of the world but just thought I'd mention it.

OR

You could just open a new sql window, grab the function or procedure and drag'n'drop into the blank window.

Hmm just testing - it doesn't even need to be a blank window so you can drag lots of stuff in and then edit it

I think Tim's looking at this sort of thing for the next major release of EDBManager

ps I only know because someone else posted here about it Smiley

Chris,

another "workaround" would be to open a second instance of EDBManager.

I forgot that one because its usually something I do by accident - I have the EDBManager icon in my quick launch bar and often double click.

That doesn't work at all well for me. Tables Open or queries prepared in one instance and modifying DB structure in the second instance. Although I may just have messy workflow Smile

It was just an observation of an annoyance is all. These workaround kind of achieve the same thing I guess.

I was about to support this suggestion when I read this response.  What!?!?
You can do that?  I must've been out sick the day that feature came
out--that's very handy!

I've often resorted to the exact same "invalid SQL" process that Chris
posted to get it to open to a new window. That now seems like a pretty silly
work-around.

Chris,

<< No Modality in Alter Trigger/Procedure etc.. Windows >>

I'll be dealing with this at some point, but it's a pretty big change to the
EDB Manager that I attempted once and had to abort due to the amount of work
involved.

If its a lot of work I'm sure there are other priorities. A simple 'send to query window' button would probably do it.

The biggest problem was that I was trying to dock the windows as tabbed
windows like the SQL, etc.  I think I'll try an in-between mix where the
windows are simply not modal, and see if that helps.
