<< I'm not sure whether to say this because I wasn't sure if it is applicable to just me or others, but for me, the pace of the video could have been faster. >> Yeah, I moved a little slower than I wanted to, and 20 mins is a little on the long side for any video. It's tough trying to manipulate a tablet with one hand, and the mouse/keyboard with the other, while speaking. I'll get better, though, so the pace should start to pick up a bit. The audio was better, though, right ? I've got a professional USB mic now, so it works a lot better than the headset. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I thought the overall pace was fine but there were small gaps of silence when things were being done in serial (i.e. something was typed or highlighted and only after did the voice start again). I agree those are tough to do in parallel and very minor aspects (i.e. i'd rather have more videos than you spending time on the silence gaps). > The audio was better, though, right ? Goodness, that's going well if you are on a tablet. The sound was lovely - a friend of mine said I needed a good mic for my screencasts because you need to start with good sound because it will only get worse as it travels to the listener. You have that covered. FWIW, I do my screencasts in a virtual machine. I run through it first to work out what I want to do. Then I create a sort of script, and then record that. I can restart easily if I need to because it is a VM. Saves having any directory names or anything else that you don't want to show too. Then I record the voice over separately (having known what I want to show), and then apply the clips in the right places in Camtasia. I found that this made it more comfortable for me, only having to concentrate on one thing at a time - actions, then words. One thing we realised is that the videos will "date" themselves quickly, so we have removed the date/time display from the Windows icon bar. Anyway, I look forward to the next one. |

<< Goodness, that's going well if you are on a tablet. >> I use the tablet for the script. It's just a lot to get positioned correctly without constantly banging into the mic. << The sound was lovely - a friend of mine said I needed a good mic for my screencasts because you need to start with good sound because it will only get worse as it travels to the listener. You have that covered. >> I bought an Editors Keys mic. Not cheap, but not super-expensive, and solid, solid, solid. It's a UK company, also. << FWIW, I do my screencasts in a virtual machine. The number of things I've got running at one time would make me seem, ahem, a bit scattershot. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Steve Gill | << Would be interested to know how others feel on this. It wasn't too
slow, and it would be better to be slower than fast. But it makes sense to discuss now (if anyone has a view) than after all the videos are done. >> I thought it was fine. Sometimes we can spend too long on trying to get everything perfect when what we should be doing is just getting it out there. I did some very average video tutorials once and I got compliments on how good it was. Crazy. Anyway, I hate listening to the sound of my own voice so now I get professional voice overs. Just on two cents. = Steve |

I'd get a professional to do the voice-over, but I've got to have a backup skill in case this programming thing doesn't work out. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
