It would be very helpful to be able to format a dataset column like it's
possible in Delphi (Display format). That would allow to localize fields
or format currencies e.g.

Well, my take is that you have raised two issues.

I agree that the developer should be able to set certain formats such
as leading zeros, floating point precision, long/short dates and the
like.

However, I think localization is different. User output and input
should automatically use the user's localized format settings.  This is
something we should expect components and/or languages (JS here?)
and/or the OS to do for us (if they do not already do so).

And example would be to format a float value to

2.315,99 ¤

e.g.

Since EWB can't know that this is a currency value, I'd like to format
it using the German currency format in this case.

That's what I meant.

But I agree with you concerning the localized format settings in general.
