You mentioned that there will be a richer panel coming - will it have a
canvas property allowing for custom drawing (assuming that's possible)?
I'm assuming this new panel would form the basis of a chart component.

I didn't plan on it, but I can see about adding Canvas access to the base
TControl, which would allow any control to do custom drawing.  I finally got
my new HTML5 spec book in, so the storage and other advanced stuff can now
be added to the WebDOM unit.
