Mark,

<< Hang on Mr Young ............. are you saying that EDB 2.29 can run on a Mac, server and admin tool? >>

No, not that far - you can only compile client applications for the Mac.  The server is coming next (once I remove the UI, which you'll see announcements about soon) and add daemon support.

The UIs on all of the products/platforms will be converging at some point, but baby steps....

Hi Tim,

<< I just completed the MacOS port (32-bit now) for EDB, and that includes all of the POSIX layer (which is most of the required functionality), and that will be coming out in EDB 2.29 this week.

The EWB3 web server will be getting MacOS/Linux support within a month of the initial release.  The main holdup with doing it in the initial release is the OpenSSL layer (currently, all of the EWB3 web server crypto is WinCrypt).

What this all eventually means is that EWB3 will be able to have a web/application server that works
on all major platforms, along with both web and native, front-end components for accessing the web server on all major platforms.  >>

This is fantastic news!

Tim,

That all sounds very positive. Get it out first obviously, but please consider Linux containers as a deployment mechanism. Key is that you can chuck an exe in one, but the configuration and data needs to be in defined locations so that they can be mapped to mount points. Typically you have the data for an application in /data and then the user can map that to wherever they want. So the key in your case is to make sure the config is in a single place, and not all over the disk. You can map multiples, and to a file level, but that isn't a good experience!

Docker is actually not hard to get into, but you can probably outsource that to keen users at first. But Linux, and Linux container support (essentially the same thing) will be a big plus in my opinion.
