Uli,

<< Ok thanks, but as Chris reports, no new Messages are displayed and after recreating an Account for Elevatesoft no Newsgroups are available (in Thunderbird).  >>

Yes, but it was caused by the same error regarding the intermediate certificates.  It turned out that I forgot a new Comodo intermediate certificate in the Stunnel PEM certificate file, and that was the problem.

It's all fixed now, and everything should be back to normal.  For the record, "www.elevatesoft.com" is still the correct NNTP server because I'm using the same cert for both the web server and the NNTP server.  The NNTP server was supposed to be retired at some point, and probably still will be retired once I get the forum functionality working a little better using EWB.

Perennial plea not to retire it please. I used to follow about 10 products using NNTP, and help out others when I knew an answer. EWB is the only remaining one (Embarcadero not really being anything about a product any more!). The user experience is just nothing like as good, nor sitting there on my desktop. There is a "forum" for another product I use daily, and visit perhaps four times a year when I have a problem. And I don't help out as I'm just grazing and not engaged.

+1 from me also - I've yet to encounter a usable web interface (with
proper threading and easy to see and read "new" posts).

I guess writing proper newsreader interface in EWB might be a solution
Smilebut would need treeview control.

I understand, but it's a bit problematic in terms of restricting what can happen with the web forum functionality, so over the long term it's in our best interest to improve the web forum functionality and retire the NNTP interface.

But, I promise that it won't be done until the web forum functionality is up to par with what you're used to seeing with an NTTP newsreader.

Sounds like a challenge... Wink

I've already decided that our future is going to be comprised of us dog-fooding EWB and EDB extensively with the web site, mail server, support system, build system, etc., so it's "all over but the crying". Smile

Make sure you have working email notifications then, so we know when there are replies to interesting topics.

Sure, that can be added, but that's not what a newsreader is doing so there will be other ways that new topics/posts are filtered/highlighted.

Not the method, but the action is. I get a highlight when there are new messages, and a red highlight when someone has responded to me directly. The "job to be done" is keeping engagement, and I hate that term's abuse.

There is one forum I am on that has email messages when there are changes, but they never get to me. No idea if they just don't send, but it can be weeks before I go check for updates, if at all.

Given that it will most likely use an EWB TTreeView control (when it's available), the support forums will very much behave like a newsreader.  In fact, it's in its interest to do so in order to keep the amount of rows coming over for a given forum to a reasonable amount.
